You can't save people from themselves.

A comment on my last blog entry has reminded me of something I already knew; you can't save someone from himself/herself no matter how hard you try. I recently had to adopt this approach with a family member or continually upset myself. And perhaps as was also pointed out, for some, sinking your ship may be the only way out of a situation.
