Re-submersion Into Reality

Back after a long weekend away.

"Re-submersion into reality" is a term I've come up with for getting back to life as we know it after spending time away. In the past I have also referred to this as "vacation brain." Dan, Jak and I arrived back home yesterday after spending an extended Memorial Day weekend in Canada. Dan's family has a cottage on a bay in Cocagne, New Brunswick.

The cottage is close to the water and is a very peaceful, relaxing spot. The weather was beautiful while we there, which from what I understand is not the norm. A day or two of rain would have been the norm. I said that Canada must like me and that's why the weather was good - which only seemed truer to me as we were packing up to leave and the wind picked up it and it started to rain. I told Dan, Canada was sad that I was leaving.

I think Jak has had the roughest re-submersion into reality. He made himself quite at home at the cottage and in the warm morning sun could be found stretched out basking in it. He was also with us the whole time so coming home to life as usual (spending the day alone while we're at work) has been a bit tough. He's suffering from what I like to call DDS. Dejected Dog Syndrome.

Here are a few pictures that I took. I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend!

Professional Pictures

Here's a link to triathlon photos...

Tri Pics

It's good that they let you view them online because they cost an arm and a leg to order them! The last seven pictures in the link are generic and as far as I can tell we're not in any of them.

In my acknowledgments yesterday I forgot to say thanks to Tamara and LD for the use of a bike. It would have been pretty hard to do the tri without one and would have been pretty expensive to rent one, so many thanks!

We ROCK!

We swam. We rode. We ran.

After a long weekend in Florida for the triathlon, I'm finally starting to get my bearings back and catch up on things. If you've sent me an email or left a voice message that I haven't returned, I promise I'll get back to you soon. If you consider swimming 1/2 mile, biking 12 miles and run/walking 3.1 miles in 93 degree humid weather to be good, then you could say the triathlon was good.

We completed all three events, including the transitions, in 2 hours and 31 minutes. The goal, however, was to finish and definitely not to compete for time. We did the swim in about the same time I had been doing the distance in the pool so that was good. On the bikes, Alina took on the role of cheering the other triathletes along which I was soon doing also and we did not pressure ourselves for time. By the time we got to the run, it was so hot and mostly in the sun there was no way I could have run it, even if we had set out to do that.

I accomplished what I set out to do almost a year ago now, and that was to complete a sprint triathlon. Now the question I keep getting is, will I do it again? At the moment I don't feel the need to but that also isn't saying I wouldn't ever do it again. It is a good feeling to accomplish what you set out to do.

I would like to say a special thank you to my tri buddy, Alina, for coming across the pond to participate with me. Your support and friendship are always appreciated. I'd also like to give a big shout out to Auntie Marion (a.k.a M-er) for being our on-site supporter and photographer. Many thanks for being there!

Revvies Match 5/3/09

It's my fault. I wore orange.

Mom and I went to the Revolution's 2nd home game this past Sunday. It was a chilly, rainy afternoon. The Revvies lost 0-2 and I'm woman enough to admit that I might have played a part in the loss. You see, I only have one piece of semi-waterproof clothing so I brought that to the game. It is a pullover that I got from LL Bean and I picked the color, orange, because I figured I would be more visible when walking Jak, especially during hunting season. The Revvies played Houston on Sunday and guess what color Houston's away jerseys are? Yup, orange. There I was sitting in the middle of the season ticket holders section wearing orange. (She hangs her head in shame.)

Sorry Revvies. I won't however take any blame for the beating the Revvies took at Rio Tinto Stadium a few weeks ago. Losing 0-6, isn't there a mercy rule in MLS?

Hey Mom - Remember to watch Revvies on Saturday night at 8:30, channel 14!

Days Gone By

Two weekends, two beautiful outdoor settings.

I've been feeling guilty for not updating my blog more but the simple fact is, life is busy right now. After a long winter, spring has finally sprung and I've been taking advantage of the nicer weather which means spending as much time outdoors with my two guys as I can.
Two weekends ago we took Jak to Cape Cod for a few days. The weather was cool which was only made colder by the wind. I haven't ever been to the Cape (and yes, I have lived in Massachusetts my whole life) so it was an adventure for all of us. The beaches were nice but they were missing one thing...seashells! There were lots of rocks, which are nice to look at and make a really cool sound when the ocean waves recede over them.

Last weekend we took a day trip to Pillsbury State Park in New Hampshire. The park wasn't yet open for the season so we had to park by the road and walk in but that also meant there weren't many people around. The temperature was in the 80's so it was a great day to be outside. I was trying to convey my dislike of snakes to Dan and was explaining that if there was one snake in an open field, I would find it. A little while later as we were hiking down a trail, I'm sure you can probably guess what slithered right in front of me. No it was not a big snake, yes it was probably harmless but to me it makes no difference. Dan steered me around it and I just didn't look. I don't hate snakes, I don't even wish them any bad, we can co-exist in this world fine as long as I don't have encounters with them.

Below are some pictures from the weekends. I hope everyone is enjoying Spring in their neck of the woods...
