"I want a hippopotamus for Christmas..."

I heard this, one of my all time favorite Christmas songs, on my way home from work tonight. (It rates right up there with "Dominic the Donkey" in my book!) I was so stuck on the song a few years ago, a friend of mine got me a hippo for Christmas. My hippo is actually a little smaller than a football and is bright pink with a big red heart on the butt, so not like a real hippopotamus which is probably a good thing. It was an unexpected gift that made my day so I named him Christmas, because to me giving a gift to make someone happy without the expectation that the gesture will be returned is what Christmas is all about.

"...only a hippopotamus will do no crocodiles or rhinoceroseses I only like hippopotamuseses and hippopotamuses like me too!"

Some people have an elephant in the living room. Hope has a hippopotamus in her bedroom. We do have 2 Owen and Mezee (sp?) books in the living room. Owen is the baby hippo who got stranded in the tsunami and was rescued and put in with a 100 year old tortoise.

You have forgotten to mention Eeyor who is also in your living room, probably more than once. That Hippopotamus song has been around a long time because I remember when I was, probably in high school, but it could have been 8th grade, it was very popular. We had a jigsaw in the cellar and I cut out little hippopotmi(?) and painted them gray and put pins on the backs and gave them to my friends for Christmas. I also like Dominic the Donkey. Now I've got to see if I can find a CD with those songs on it.
