Sunny Sunday

Goodbye Hanna; hello beautiful sunny day!

By the time I woke up this morning all that was left of the storm was some wind and that didn't even last much past noon. The sun was shining and the sky was a brilliant blue. I even rode my bike, along with my cousin Maggie, to a family picnic in town this afternoon. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like those in the path of Ike will be as lucky.

I've said for a long time that the one job I've always wanted was to be the person that names hurricanes. I'm very good at doling at nicknames, and naming pets - not only ours but for family and friends on occasion so I think I would be perfect for the job. I guess the main thing holding me back is that I have no idea where to apply for such a job and what actual qualifications I might need. But for what it's worth, I approve of the name Ike.

How about "I like Ike!"

When we moved to Granville, we got our first television so we could follow the election of Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was running against Adlai E. Stevenson. "I like Ike", was clearly a better slogan than "I like Adlai".

I also remember seeing the McCarthy hearings on the television. There was a real dirtball... sort of a precursor to Karl Rove.

In the back of my mind I seem to remember that our first television was a Fada (do any of the other siblings remember this?)

I can remember on Friday nights that Grandpa Schlosser would sometimes be there and we would watch the boxing on the Friday Night Fights (sponsored by Gillette... look sharp, feel sharp, be sharp)

I am starting to remember things... this is not good!

I have no idea what brand of television we had. I know mother bought it because there were the Olympics being televised, maybe for the first time from Oslo, Queen Elizabeth was being crowned and the presidental elections were that year. I do remember Grampa watching the Friday night fights. I also remember Howdy Doody, and the fact that all my friend watched I Love Lucy which came on at 9:00p.m. on Monday nights and I couldn't watch it because we went to bed t 8:30. I still have an I Like Ike button which I found in the closet in Granville. It was mine, should I have put it on the list? I am not wearing it for this Ike.

I stand corrected on the Turtle migration link Hope. I thought I saw it on your Blog. It was on Marions. I guess I had too many glasses of Cab! Sorry
